Catalouge

The sight of human bodies fragmented by an opaque milky fluid does not force the viewer to gaze into a horrific nightmare; however, they do confront the viewer with the suggestion of violence, consent, and death as they emerge from the wet and erotically saturated forms. The erotic nature of the images serves to arrest the viewer through natural erotic responses to human sexuality. By delicately pairing the erotic with the abject, as seen in the tangles of black hair wrapped between the neck and fingers, these images become more accessible as they toe the line of transgression.

By straddling these two charged and conflicting reactions, a viewer becomes confused and uneasy about where they stand, while simultaneously being unable to completely dismiss and categorize not only the imagery before them, but also their response to the work.  The figures are not fragmented by horrific means but rather by a white fluid. Is this milk of an animal? Of a mother’s breast? The choice to engulf mature adult figures in a non-descript white substance raises questions of whether the substance is nurturing or suffocating.
